Phase Transitions in a Two-Dimensional Vortex System with Defects: Monte Carlo Simulation
نویسندگان
چکیده
The phase states and phase transitions in a system consisting of a two-dimensional vortex lattice with defects are studied by the Monte Carlo method. It is shown that a “rotating lattice” phase, which is an intermediate phase between the vortex crystal and vortex liquid phases, is present. The dependence of the temperature of the transition from the rotating lattice phase into a vortex liquid on the strength of the defect potential is determined. The current-voltage characteristics of the system are calculated at various temperatures for point, square, and linear defects. It is shown that the phase state of the system strongly affects its transport properties. © 2000 MAIK “Nauka/Interperiodica”.

Features of the melting dynamics of a vortex lattice in a high-Tc superconductor in the presence of pinning centers
The phase transition ‘‘triangular lattice–vortex liquid’’ in layered highTc superconductors in the presence of pinning centers is studied. A two-dimensional system of vortices simulating the superconducting layers in a high-Tc Shubnikov phase is calculated by the Monte Carlo method. It was found that in the presence of defects the melting of the vortex lattice proceeds in two stages: First, the...
متن کاملStructure formation, phase transitions and drag interactions in multicomponent su- perconductors and superfluids
Superconductivity and superfluidity are some of the most fundamental and important phenomena of modern physics. However, much theoretical work for such systems so far has been restricted to the onecomponent case. For multicomponent systems, the spectrum of possible topological defects, their structure formation and associated phase transitions, can all be much richer than in the one-component c...
متن کاملTwo and Three Dimensional Monte Carlo Simulation of Magnetite Nanoparticle Based Ferrofluids
We have simulated a magnetite nanoparticle based ferrofluid using Monte Carlo method. Two and three dimensional Monte Carlo simulations have been done using parallel computing technique. The aggregation and rearrangement of nanoparticles embedded in a liquid carrier have been studied in various particle volume fractions. Our simulation results are in complete agreement with the reported experim...

The study of a two-dimensional (2-D) system started nearly half a century ago when Peierls and Landau showed the lack of long range translational order in a two-dimensional solid. In 1968, Mermin proved that despite the absence of long range translational order. Two-dimensional solids can still exhibit a different kind of long range bond orientation. During the last decade, fascinating theori...
متن کاملNature of phase transitions in a generalized complex zcz4 model
We employ Monte Carlo simulations to study a generalized three-dimensional complex ucu4 theory of Ginzburg-Landau form and compare our numerical results with a recent quasianalytical mean-field-type approximation, which predicts first-order phase transitions in parts of the phase diagram. As we have shown earlier, this approximation does not apply to the standard formulation of the model. This ...
